Comprising more than twenty caves, the Tu Lan Cave System was initially explored by the British-Vietnam Caving Expedition Team in 1992. A more comprehensive survey was conducted in 2010, followed by subsequent explorations. Notably, the system lies outside the confines of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park. The genesis of Tu Lan as an independent cave system can be traced back to the Rao Nan River, originating from Thuong Hoa, Trung Hoa, Dan Hoa, Hoa Son, and Tan Hoa Communes in Minh Hoa District. This expansive network of limestone caves converges in the Tan Hoa commune area, approximately 70 km northwest of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, running parallel to the legendary Ho Chi Minh highway. Situated adjacent to the communal area of Tan Hoa in Minh Hoa District, Quang Binh Province, Tu Lan showcases a unique subterranean landscape.
