How to Apply Tourist Visa to Myanmar

If you wish to apply for a tourist visa to Myanmar, you must make sure the following requirements are met prior to submitting your application:

  1. Your passport must be valid for at least six months.
  2. You must upload a color photo taken within the past three months, with dimensions 4.6 cm X 3.8 cm.
  3. You must upload the bio-data page of your passport.
  4. A proof of return ticket from Myanmar must be included.
  5. You must provide proof of hotel booking for your stay in Myanmar, which must be in a registered hotel, motel, inn, guest house or resort.
  6. Visa, Master, or JCB credit cards are necessary for online visa payment.

Documents that Tourists Need for Applying Burmese Visa

  1. COVID 19 vaccination certificate

Travelers visiting Myanmar must have a valid COVID 19 vaccination certificate issued at least 14 days prior to arrival, confirming that they have been vaccinated with one of the approved vaccines by the Ministry of Health (MOH) such as CoronaVac (Sinovac Biotech Ltd.), AstraZeneca or Covishield (AstraZeneca & University of Oxford/SK Bioscience (Korea)/Siam BioScience/ Serum Institute of India (SII)), Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine or Comirnaty (Pfizer Inc., & BioNTech), Janssen or Johnson & Johnson (Janssen Pharmaceuticals Companies of Johnson & Johnson), Moderna (ModernaTX, Inc.,), Sinopharm or COVILO or BIBP-CorV (Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co., Ltd), Sputnik V (Gam-COVID-Vac) (Gamaleya National Research Centre of Epidemiology and Microbiology), Sputnik Light (Gamaleya National Research Centre of Epidemiology and Microbiology), Covaxin by Bharat Biotech, Myancopharm by Ministry of Industry, Myanmar, and Nuvaxovid (NVX-CoV2373).

Children aged 12 or below are not subject to this requirement if they travel with parent(s)/guardian(s) who have been fully vaccinated. Vaccination details of both the traveler(s) and the accompanying adult(s), including country, name and date of vaccination, must be presented in either English or Myanmar, as stated in the passport.

  1. Negative COVID-19 RT-PCR

For those unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated, a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR result must be issued within 48 hours prior to entering Myanmar. Children under 12 years old are exempt from this requirement. The information on the negative test result and/or COVID-19 recovery, in English, must include the details of the traveler’s passport.

  1. Travel Insurance

Travelers from abroad can purchase a COVID-19 medical insurance from Myanma Insurance. Further information can be found on the Myanma Insurance website (mminsurance.gov.mm). Diplomats, UN officials and their families, as well as businessmen operating within and outside of Myanmar, may be exempt from purchasing health insurance from Myanmar companies if they can prove that they have obtained insurance, including COVID-19 health insurance, from their respective country or from internationally recognized insurance companies.

  1. Travelers must present a printed copy of all documents mentioned in the first paragraph to airline staff and airport health authorities upon check-in and on arrival to Myanmar.
  2. Additionally, a Health Declaration Form must also be submitted to the relevant airport health authorities upon arrival.
  3. Providing any false information in this form may result in legal action.
  4. All travelers must be thermally screened upon arrival by the airport health authorities and if found to have COVID-19 related symptoms, they must take a COVID-19 rapid diagnostic test.
  5. If the test is positive, travelers must be immediately isolated and taken to a designated medical facility, treatment center, or hotel as per health protocols.
  6. Before traveling from Myanmar, travelers must take a COVID-19 test if required by the countries they are going to and transiting through, as specified by the Ministry of Health (MOH) at their own expense. They must also comply with the directives issued by the health and airport authorities.
  7. Any violation of COVID-19 control regulations will result in legal action.
  8. State guests or foreign delegates arriving in Myanmar via state or special flights can apply for an exemption to the Central Committee for Prevention, Control and Treatment of COVID-19, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the MOH, at least 5 working days in advance.
  9. Foreign air crew who need to make a stopover in Myanmar are subject to self-isolation at hotels selected by the MOH until their next flight as per the relevant health protocols.
  10. Visitors to Myanmar should use airports approved by the Department of Civil Aviation.
  11. It is advisable to check for any changes in these regulations.
